Red Tape Galore!

It's been a week since my niece contacted us.  We've been scrambling to figure out what is required and making sure we meet those requirements.
We retained a lawyer in Florida.
We've been working on our homestudy with an adoption agency.
We've met with our Doctor and did our water potability test.
During all this running around, Sonya's truck needed to have the U-joints replaced so we were down to one car for a couple days.

Car is fixed now - and most of our paperwork is done.  We still need to complete our autobiographies and wait for our background checks.
Also, found some bacteria in our well water, so we have to get that taken care of and get a new test done.  A lot to do with only two more days before we hit the road for the Sunshine State.

Bad News - Good News (We Hope)

Bad News:  It looks like China only got to September 21st this month.  TWO DAYS!!  UGHHH!   Last August was a pretty unproductive month as well, which was followed up by a 14 day month.  I'm hoping that is the case this year as well - but I'm not holding out hope.

Good News:  My niece contacted us about adopting her baby which is due in two weeks.  A lot to do and even if the adoption goes through, we may not be able to bring the baby home from Florida for a month!!  We'll see what happens.  Again, we are hopeful, but cautious.  We've been down a lot of dead ends over the years.  Not in the mood for another one.

Welcome to our blog

If you have ever gone through the process of adopting a child from China, the first question you would have for us is, "What is your log in date?"

Our LID:  March 29, 2007

For those of you that are not familiar with the process.  This is the date that we were officially logged in to China Center for Adoption Affairs (CCAA), which has since changed it's name to China Center for Children's Welfare and Adoption (CCCWA).  This is the government agency in China that manages international adoptions.

As of today we have been logged in for 5.3 years.  However, we started the whole process of filling out paperwork, doing home studies, getting doctors physicals, etc. closer to six years ago.

When we started, we thought we were looking at a two year process, max.  Boy were we wrong!

The good news is - I think we are probably more than half way done with our wait.  The bad news - we could be looking at another four years!!!  The problem is that there is no accurate way to predict how long it will take.

Each month our adoption agency forwards us an update on what Log In Date (LID) the CCCWA has placed through.  Meaning that all families with LID's up to that date are getting their referrals that month.

Last month they had gotten to LID: 9-15-2006.  The month prior: 9-11-2006.  The month before that: 9-4-2006.  Typically, it's been taking about six months to get through one month of LID's.  So, if that pace were to continue - we'd be looking at another 3.5 years!!!

So to put it in perspective - when we started this process, we thought we might have our daughter by the time the Olympics rolled around in Bejing in 2008 - now we're thinking we'll be lucky if we get her before the Olympics in Brazil in 2016!!

In the mean time, I wanted to start this blog.  I don't expect I'll post much more than a few updates here and there -but when we do get closer to our referral, I'll use this as a place that our family and friends and all the wonderful people that have been rooting for us over the years can get updates!
